Dhanbad, Oct 13: Chaibasa in West Singhbhum will host the All India Open FIDE Rating Chess Championship from November 5 to 9, announced Basant Khandelwal, General Secretary of the West Singhbhum District Chess Association (WSDCA).

The championship will feature a total prize pool of Rs 3 lakh, with the winner receiving Rs 61,000 along with a trophy, the runner-up Rs 41,000, and the third-place finisher Rs 25,000.

Cash prizes will be awarded to a total of 30 players. In addition, special prizes will be given to participants with ratings between 1400 and 1600, the best unrated player, the best veteran player, and the best player from the host district of West Singhbhum.

So far, 100 players from different states, including International Master Aryan Varshney, who holds a 2496 international rating, have confirmed their participation. Around 300 players are expected to compete in the tournament, with the last date for entries set for October 27, Khandelwal said.

The championship will be conducted over nine rounds, with each round lasting 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment. International Arbiter Vishal Kumar Minj will serve as the Chief Arbiter, while Purushottam Saraf will act as the coordinator.

A meeting of the West Singhbhum District Chess Association was held on Sunday under the chairmanship of Vice-President Jahagir Alam to plan the successful organization of the championship.

Other officials present included Vice-President Narendra Pandey, Rakesh Budhia, Jaideo Chandra Tripathi, Sunil Sharma (Treasurer), Anant Lal Vishwakarma, Subrat Chandra Tripathi, Nirmal Chandra Tripathi, Harsh Sharma, and Krishna Jalan.
