SUBHASH MISHRA

Dhanbad, April 20: Senior Congress leader Anupma Singh has demanded strict action against Rashid Ansari Raja, the executive president of the Dhanbad District Congress Committee, for allegedly assaulting media persons during a party rally on April 16.

Anupma Singh, wife of Bermo MLA Anup Singh and Congress’s Lok Sabha candidate from Dhanbad in the upcoming May 2024 elections, stated that the Congress Party has always deeply respected the media, which is considered the fourth pillar of democracy. “No amount of condemnation is enough for this attack on journalists by the executive president,” she said.

She added that the Congress Party has taken cognisance of the incident and will take disciplinary action. “I urge the party’s Jharkhand in-charge, K. Raju, and state president, Keshav Mahto Kamlesh, to take strict action against those involved,” she said.

In a letter addressed to the president and secretary of the Dhanbad Press Club, Anupma Singh expressed her shock and sadness over the incident. “I came to know about the incident through party workers and newspapers, and I strongly condemned it,” she said.

According to reports, Congress district executive president Rashid Ansari Raja, along with his sons and brother, allegedly attacked media persons during a party rally against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on April 16. The journalists involved have lodged an FIR at the Dhanbad Sadar Police Station.
