Dhanbad, April 13: Congressmen of the coal belt paid rich tributes to Bihar-era senior leader and trade unionist Shailendra Singh at the Shradhanjali Sabha, held at the departed leader’s residence in Master Para of Hirapur.

Dhanbad district Congress president Santosh Kumar Singh, former minister and veteran leader Mannan Mallick, Congress state general secretary Vaibhav Sinha,  Youth Congress state president  Abhijit Raj, former state secretary Jitendra Roy, Dhanbad district Youth Congress president Kumar Gaurav, senior leader Raj Kumar Roy,  Ramgopal Bhuwania, Vidhan Chandra Roy and others offered floral tributes on portrait and recalled contribution of late Shailendra Singh in expanding base of organisation.

The Congress leader Shailendra Singh died on April 1 evening, and his last rite was performed at Sultanganj of Bihar on April 3.

“He (Shailendra Singh) was our source of inspiration and showed how to work selflessly for the party without ever holding any post in the organization despite being a senior member. He was brought by veteran leader BP Sinha into the trade union and could have taken any post in Rashtriya Colliery Mazdoor Sangh and Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC). But in 57 years, he did not hanker for any post,” said former state secretary Jitendra Roy while paying tributes.

Rashtriya Colliery Mazdoor Union (RCMS), Dhanbad District Volleyball Association (DDVA), and Dhanbad Brahmarshi Sabha held separate Shradhanjali Sabha and paid tribute to him.

Shailendra Singh was also the senior vice president of DDVA. Suraj Prakash Lal, secretary of DDVA, said he always encouraged the promotion of volleyball in the district and helped organize tournaments or send teams out of the district.
