Jamshedpur, Dec 18: Unidentified criminals today shot dead a Congress worker Alok Kumar alias Munna at Shastri Nagar Road No. 4 under the Kadma police station area.

Alok Munna, who used to run a club was active in social activities.

At around 10 am, bike-borne criminals shot Alok Munna four times from a close range, causing him to collapse on the spot.

He was immediately rushed to Tata Main Hospital (TMH), where doctors declared him as brought dead.

Alok Munna had several criminal cases registered against him. Recently he was caught on CCTV beating a BJP leader, in connection with which a case was registered at Kadma police station.

Despite this, he was associated with Congress and other social organisations and was considered influential in the area.

Old enmity might be the motive

Soon after the incident, Kadma police reached the spot and started investigation.

According to preliminary investigation, this murder could be the result of old enmity. Evidence is being collected from the spot, and CCTV footage of the area is being scanned.

Police said that an intensive investigation is underway to identify the culprits and they will be arrested soon.

Panic prevailed in Shastri Nagar after the shootout incident. Local residents say that the criminals have raised questions on law and order by committing such a crime openly.

Anger and grief prevailed among supporters and family members of Alok Munna.

Meanwhile, murmuring has started in Jamshedpur about the political and social implications of the murder.
