Ranchi, February 20: Contractual Multi-Purpose Workers (MPW) of the state will go to the Nepal House tomorrow for a single point of regularisation of their jobs.

Jharkhand MPW Employees Association president Pawan Mahto said that since the state government did not take cognisance of their eight-day-old agitation, contractual employees have no option but to go to gherao Nepal House to implement the demand.

“All MPWs will assemble at Rajendra Chowk tomorrow morning and proceed for Gherao of Nepal House at 10 am through Main Road. MPWs of all Divisions, Santhal Pargana, North Chhotanagpur, Palamu and Kolhan, have already proceeded for Ranchi from their respective places,” said Pawan Kumar.

MPWs have been on the agitation path since February 12. On Monday (February 19), they sat on a day-long hunger strike to draw the government’s attention.

In the wake of tomorrow’s proposed Nepal House gherao, all 24 district units of MPWs today informed their respective civil surgeon about mass leave for the agitation.

In Dhanbad, district body president Shivshankar Saw and general secretary Ranjit Kumar handed the Mass Leave application to a civil surgeon.

State body vice-president Sujit Kumar said that in Jamshedpur East Singhbhum district unit president Barun Kumar Pal, Saraikela Kharsawan president Mangal Hemabram ( he is also state general secretary), Deoghar district president Ajay Kumar Saw and other districts presidents have also given Mass leave application to their respective civil surgeon.

Over 1536 MPWs in the state have been working in the state on a contractual basis since 2008. They claim Chief Minister Hemant Soren had assured them they would regularise them, but even after four years, they have yet to be confirmed.
