SUBHASH MISHRA
Dhanbad, August 2: The demotion of two civil surgeons (CS), Dr Jujharu Majhi of Jamshedpur and Dr Arvind Kumar of Sahibganj, in mass transfer–posting of medical officers has surprised the medical fraternity in Jharkhand.
As per the notification issued by the under secretary of the state government Ajay Kumar Singh, 75 medical officers have been transferred and posted across the state. Besides the demotion of two civil surgeons, more than 10 medical officers have also been promoted to higher posts.
Demotion of CSs surprises all
What was surprising in the new transfer list was the demotion of Dr Jujharu Majhi and Dr Arvind Kumar. Both have been removed in one year. Dr Jujharu Majhi has been transferred to Saraikela as ACMO while Dr Arvind Kumar has been sent to Pukur as Malaria officer.
Besides them, Dr Ehteshan, the district tuberculosis officer in Pakur, has also been demoted as a medical officer and sent to Ramgarh.

Notably, 12 civil surgeons, demoted last year through mass transfer, did not get a berth in this transfer-posting list.
Interestingly, Dr Sanjiv Kumar Prasad, a medical officer at Sahibganj Sadar Hospital, has been transferred to Dhanbad Sadar Hospital within a year.
Sanjiv Kumar Prasad was appointed deputy superintendent of Dhanbad Sadar Hospital by the Governor in 2023. But he was transferred to Sahibganj with demotion.
10 medical officers promoted
Meanwhile, more than 10 medical officers have transferred with promotion.
The medical officer of Dumka, Dr Sanchayan, has been promoted to district tuberculosis officer Deoghar. Sahibganj medical officer Dr Kiran Mala has been promoted to district leprosy officer in the same district. Kanke (Ranchi) medical officer Dr Dhananjay Sumwray has been promoted to ACMO Gumla.
Besides them, medical officer Dr Tulika Rani of Gomia (Bokaro) has been promoted to district leprosy officer in Ramgarh. Dr Rajeshwar Prasad Das, medical officer Rajdhawan (Giridih) has been promoted to RCH officer in the same district. Dr Seema Gupta, medical officer at Gumla Sadar Hospital has been promoted to the post of Ranchi district leprosy officer. Dr Md Zaved, medical officer Paljori (Deoghar) has been promoted to Dumka malaria officer.
