Dhanbad, June 29: Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner (DC) cum managing director of Jharia Rehabilitation and Development Authority (JRDA) Madhvi Mishra has directed to screen list of residents living in the dangerous Jharia fire zone.
While reviewing, the DC asked authorities of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) to intensify the rehabilitation of residents living in high-risk areas of the fire zone. “Names of some residents are figured in the lists of more than one area site. So, screen the lists and retrench duplicate names for shifting”, said DC.
As per a 2019 survey report of agencies, a total of 1.4 lakh 946 families were spotted living in 595 fire-affected mines in the Jharia coalfield. Among them, 32,064 families were Legal Title Holders (LTH) and 72,882 families were encroachers.

Since incidents of subsidence in residential areas of fire zones increase during monsoon, keeping this in mind, the deputy commissioner directed concerned officials to shift residents living in high-risk fire zone areas on a priority basis.
At the review meeting, DC took details of survey reports, verified legal land owners and non-legal land owners of fire zone areas, SOP of JRDA, status of residents shifting to a safe place, development and infrastructure of Belagaria Township and basic facilities for residents.
Before the review meeting, Madhvi Mishra visited Belgaria Township, set up by JRDA for rehabilitation of Jharia fire-displaced families under the Jharia Master Plan, and inspected the quarters allotted to residents.
The concerned officials of JRDA at the meeting informed the DC about problems that appeared in house allotment, security system, health services, sports ground for children, drinking water and power, restoring internet facility, bank and ATM in Belagaria Township.
