Dhanbad, June 10: As part of a state-wide campaign running from June 10 to 26, Dhanbad and Deoghar districts flagged off awareness Raths on Tuesday to promote a drug-free lifestyle.

In Dhanbad, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Aditya Ranjan and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Ranjan jointly flagged off the awareness vehicle from the new Collectorate building. In Deoghar, DC Naman Priyesh Lakra launched the campaign vehicle from the district Collectorate.

Focus on Youth and Action Against Drug Peddlers
Speaking at the event, Dhanbad DC Aditya Ranjan highlighted Jharkhand’s leadership in enforcing a ban on Gutka and 11 brands of Pan Masala. “This Awareness Rath has been launched to keep the youth of Dhanbad away from drug use and to curb the spread of addiction,” he said.

The DC added that the Rath would tour various parts of the district over the next two weeks, spreading information on the dangers of drugs and encouraging positive choices.
He also said that the district administration would run a comprehensive campaign to foster social change and warned of strict action against those selling drugs, particularly in and around schools, colleges, and educational institutions.


Police Intensify Surveillance Around Educational Zones
SSP Prabhat Kumar said all police stations in the district had been directed to conduct intensive surveillance near educational institutions and other sensitive areas. He urged the public to report drug-related activities confidentially to the police to support enforcement efforts.

Deoghar’s Mission for a Drug-Free Baba Dham
In Deoghar, DC Naman Priyesh Lakra said the goal is to make Baba Dham (Deoghar) a drug-free region. “The Rath will educate people about the harmful effects of drugs. To make this campaign effective, it is essential for us to be informed and to raise awareness among others about the dangers of addiction,” he said.
The campaign will continue across both districts through June 26, with local administrations aiming to strengthen community engagement and reduce drug dependency.
