Dhanbad, June 26: In a major breakthrough, Dhanbad district police recovered 21 stolen motorcycles from a garage under Jharia police station and arrested five members of an inter-district bike theft syndicate operating in Dhanbad and Jamtara.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar told reporters that the operation followed a tip-off about stolen bikes being sold at a garage in Jharia using forged documents, after tampering with engine and chassis numbers.

A special squad was formed under Sindri Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ashutosh Satyam. Acting on the inputs, police raided the targeted garage and, following the interrogation of the garage operator, conducted further raids at five different locations in Jharia. The raids led to the recovery of 21 motorcycles and two mobile phones.

SSP Kumar said five individuals involved in the theft and resale of motorcycles were arrested. They have been identified as Md Arif Ansari (26) and Chhotu Kumar alias Chhotu Pandit (18), both residents of Jharia; Suraj Kumar (20) from Lakhisarai in Bihar; Md Aslam (47) from Jamtara district; and Jago alias Jagdish Bhuyan (58) from Dhanbad.

A senior police official remarked that this is the first time such a large number of stolen motorcycles have been recovered in a single operation in the district.
