Daltonganj, June 20: On how many days is ultrasonography (USG) conducted at MMCH Daltonganj? This query was made by none else than the DC Sameera S on Thursday. The answer that she got was flabbergasting for everyone.

An NGO handles this USG facility here in the MMCH. After the general OPD, the USG unit sees a sizeable footfall of patients in the MMCH Daltonganj.

One personnel said, “It’s four days a week.” Standing close to this personnel was another one who said, “Three days in a week.”

False Claims Met with Leniency, But Noted for Action

This contradictory claim was made before the DC Sameera S, who had a massive detour of the MMCH for nearly four hours, inspecting each and every facility.

Sources said the temerity of the health personnel, be they are of the government or of the NGO, here in the MMCH is simply rampant. Lies they pass on as truth.

Sources said as it was the maiden visit cum inspection of the DC Sameera S in the MMCH, people who made a deliberate attempt to make a faux pas before the DC were just reprimanded and mercifully spared not to rub their hands in infinite sorrow for making such a falsehood of four days or three days in a week in regard to the USG facility.

Misinformation on TB Ward Occupancy Adds to Concerns

It was not the solo incident. There was another disconcerting moment when a wrong information about the indoor patients in the TB ward was given to the DC

One senior official had told the DC that since there was renovation work going on in the TB ward, there is no indoor TB patient on Thursday in the MMCH.

MMCH officials said there were three admitted to the TB ward. One was referred to the higher centre in Ranchi. Two are there.

MMCH sources said the official who described nil position of the indoor TB patients was himself not aware of the actual occupancy of the indoor TB patients, as he hardly takes a round of the whole complex of the MMCH even in a week or so.

Flagship Departments Get Attention While Mental Health Takes a Backseat

Like it always happened in the past, no health official bothered to brief the DC Sameera S about one mental health unit operating in the MMCH Daltonganj. This mental health unit is on the first floor, close to the Medall facility centre.

Its medical officer in charge, Dr Ashish Kumar, a noted psychiatrist and mental health healer, said, “We were looking forward to our DC’s arrival here.”

This mental health unit is in fact a mirror of the general public health in Palamu. According to Dr Ashish Kumar victims of opioids are on the rise here in Palamu. So is the number of cases of depression, neurotic anxiety, panic reaction disorders.

An official of the MMCH Daltonganj told this correspondent, “The MMCH team hurries to show the flagship departments like gynaecology, medicine, orthopaedic etc to the VVIP, completely ignoring the mental health unit in the MMCH Daltonganj, which is proving an oasis of hope and relief to scores of drug addicts of both genders.
