Dhanbad, June 4: Dr Anil Kumar, a senior surgeon and former superintendent of Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College & Hospital (SNMMCH), has been unanimously elected as the president of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), Dhanbad chapter, for the 2025–27 term.

The election took place during a meeting of the ASI Dhanbad chapter held at Hotel Cocoon in Saraidhela. Alongside Dr Kumar, Dr Vibhash Sahay was elected as secretary and Dr Laxminarayan as treasurer—both unopposed. Over 40 surgeons from the district participated in the meeting.

Focus on Medical Education and Support for Young Surgeons
Speaking after his election, Dr Anil Kumar stated that the new team will prioritise organising regular Continuing Medical Education (CME) programmes to provide young and practicing surgeons with platforms for discussion on advanced surgical techniques and the latest developments in the field.
“We will work to establish strong coordination with both the state and national chapters of ASI to enhance facilities and opportunities for young surgeons,” he said, adding that “Our team will also strive to ensure that affordable and quality surgical care is made available to underprivileged patients.”

District Conference on June 27
Dr Kumar announced that the newly elected team will host its first district-level conference and workshop for surgeons on June 27.

Surgeons across the district have extended their congratulations to Dr Anil Kumar, expressing confidence that his leadership and vast experience will greatly benefit young medical professionals in the region.
