Daltonganj, Sept 24: Dr P N Mahto today joined as the principal of the Medinirai Medical College Hospital in Daltonganj. He replaced Dr Kamender Prasad.
Speaking to this correspondent Dr Mahto said, “Prior to my transfer, posting and joining here today I was head of the physiology department in the MGM Medical College and Hospital in Jamshedpur.”
Dr Mahto said, “As it’s my first day in office here in the MMCH Daltonganj I believe I need more breathing time to speak about.”
Faculty shortage among various issues
Sources said the MMCH Daltonganj has a plethora of issues. The biggest issue is of the faculty crunch. Just to name one critical shortage, it is of faculty in forensic medicine and toxicology department.
However, the new principal may find team here cooperative and understanding, said sources. The team tries to be sensible and sensitive towards the students.

Infrastructure issues impacting students
Issues related to medicos are not any less. If it’s non-functional lifts, then there lies the issue of the cadavers.
The lingering issue of the auditorium is a major pain in neck for this college. The high profile builder is virtually sleeping over it as its estimated cost drawn in 2019 had been surpassed by the price rise.
This medical college has a problem with the Central Library. Medical students want it to be a late night availability which is just not feasible for various reasons, said sources.
Cadavers, electricity and drinking water issues
Cadavers are a chronic issue here as getting a dead body is harder than to find a tutor, said sources.
Electricity is another nagging problem here. Medical students have staged umpteen dharnas for safe drinking water and round the clock supply of the electricity.
The new principal will have to establish a good rapport with the Nilamber Pitamber University to which this medical college is affiliated as this university dogged with its own problem of adhocism, delays and lingers examinations and its subsequent publication of results.
