Dhanbad, May 3: Arrested deputy general manager (GM) of Eastern Coalfield Limited (ECL) Ramprakash Pandey was sent in the custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for two days.

The CBI produced him in the court of CBI Special Judge cum District and Session Judge Rajnikant Pathak on late Thursday evening. The court sent him to CBI custody for two days.

CBI catches Dy GM taking bribe

The CBI team had arrested Ramprakash Pandey in Hariajam Colliery, CBH Group of Mines, Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), Mugma Area, Dhanbad while taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a miner to change his duty from underground mines to surface.

Bribe demand for changing workplace

An official said that complainant Sanjiv Kumar Sinha, a general Mazdoor of Hariajam Colliery, CBH Group of Mines, under Mugma Area, ECL, had requested deputy general manager Ramprakash Pandey to change his duty from underground mines to surface on handicapped ground.

As per the allegation deputy general manager demanded a bribe of Rs 75,000 for doing so.

Sanjiv Kumar Sinha complained to the CBI. The central agency laid a trap and caught the accused Dy. General Manager red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000 from the complainant, as part of payment of the bribe on May 1.

It is said the complainant has been working as General Mazdoor at Hariajam Colliery, CBH Group of Mines, under Mugma Area, ECL since 2006. In 2011 he met with a fatal accident and thereby he became 50% handicapped.

The civil surgeon, Dhanbad issued a medical certificate in 2012 in this regard.  Initially, he was doing his underground duties.  But after he was handicapped to the extent of 50%, the complainant requested Pandey to change his duty at the surface, but he did not do so.

Later on, the complainant requested an MP of the area in this regard. Subsequently, the accused Dy. General Manager issued authorization letter No. 489 dated 16.03.2024 through which he was deputed at surface work i.e. weighbridge, Central Pool Siding. The accused demanded a bribe for the said work.
