Jharkhand News: Experts discuss ‘Clean Coal and Carbon Utilization’ at IIT ISM Dhanbad

Dhanbad, Sept 24: A six-day programme on ‘Clean Coal and Carbon Utilization’ has commenced at IIT ISM, bringing together 26 faculty members from various universities, colleges, and higher educational institutions across the country.

The event, organized by the Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering departments of IIT (ISM) under the Malviya Mission Teacher Training Program, aims to delve into the latest advancements in clean coal technology and carbon capture techniques.

The online continuing education programme was inaugurated by Prof. Somnath Chattopadhyay, the professor in charge, who addressed the participants as the chief guest.

Prof. Aditya Kumar, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department; Prof. Mrinalini Pandey, coordinator of the Malviya Mission Teachers Training Centre; Prof. A. Samanta, course coordinator; Prof. Tanmoy Dutta, and Prof. S. Sen Gupta, course coordinators, were also present and contributed to the opening session.

Focus and goals of the program

In his address, Prof. Chattopadhyay emphasized that the primary goal of the program is to disseminate knowledge about recent developments in High Efficiency Low Emission (HELE) clean technology and Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) technologies.

He highlighted the program’s objective of bridging knowledge gaps and equipping participants with the latest advancements to stay at the forefront of the field.

Prof. Mrinalini Pandey underscored the importance of such programs in enhancing the expertise and skills of faculty members.

Prof. Aditya Kumar added that the course is designed to provide a competitive edge by allowing participants to learn from field leaders, exchange ideas with experts nationwide, and foster scientific and technological development through collaborative efforts.

Prof. A. Samanta, course coordinator, explained that upon completing the course, participants will not only be able to identify current needs and gaps in clean coal and carbon utilization but will also be equipped to develop innovative solutions and adapt to emerging trends in these areas.
