Jamshedpur, June 17: In a major breakthrough the police and paramilitary forces gunned down four Naxals in an encounter that took place under the Gua Thana area in West Singhbhum district about 160 km away from here on Monday morning.

Two Naxals injured

Those killed were hardcore Naxals and included a lady rebel.

Moreover, two Naxals including a lady Naxal were injured in the encounter and arms and ammunition have also been recovered from the encounter scene.

Police received intelligence input about Naxals’ presence

According to sources, the police had an intelligence input that a sizable number of Naxals were anchored in the dense forest in Gua. Getting the information, police and paramilitary forces had launched a search operation there in the forest.

As the paramilitary forces were carrying out the search operation, they were rained with shots. Soon after, the paramilitary forces retaliated causing casualties on the Naxals’ side.

Reinforcement in encounter site to intensify anti-insurgency operation

Though the West Singhbhum SP, Ashutosh Shekhar could not be contacted for a comment and confirmation about the encounter, the OC, Gua Thana, Nitish Kumar confirmed about the encounter.

“A fierce encounter has taken place in Gua resulting in the death of four hardcore Naxals today. The details about the background of the dead Naxals are being verified, ” said the OC while talking to The Jharkhand Story.

The police officer stated that reinforcement in the encounter site is being made by the West Singhbhum SP, Ashutosh Shekhar to intensify the anti-insurgency operation there.

The forest where the encounter took place today falls under the Kolhan forest division.

It was the first incident of Naxal casualties in the Kolhan forest division after a great number of CPI-Maoist rebels had sneaked into there since January 2023.
