Dhanbad, July 20: The Director-in-chief, Health Department, Dr CK Shahi, has written the superintendent of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad to arrange a power connection in the hostel of Paramedical college students.
Hostel lying unused for 5 years
The construction of the hostel for Para Medical students has been completed but rooms have not been allotted to students for the last five years owing to a lack of power and water supply connection.
Since the contractor did not get a power and water connection in the hostel as per the agreement, SNMMCH authorities wrote this to the government and even brought it to the notice of then-additional chief secretary (ACS) Health Arun Kumar Singh three years ago.

Paramedical students on agitation path for hostel
For the last five months, Paramedical students have intensified agitating for allotment of rooms. Four days ago, they had broken the locks of the hostel. They also met the DIC in Ranchi and gave a memorandum regarding allotment.
Based on the students’ memorandum, the director-in-chief has sent a letter to the SNMMCH Dhanbad superintendent to solve the power problem of the hostel at his level. (The copy of the DIC letter is also in possession of The Jharkhand Story).
SNMMCH principal Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad, who has the additional charge of the superintendent, could not be available for comment on the letter from the DIC health. But Dr Ganesh Kumar, coordinator of the Para Medical College wing of SNMMCH said that he has not received any letter from Ranchi (DIC) in this connection.
“I would have of course replied had I got a letter of director-in-chief health. I would say only after getting the letter,” said Dr Ganesh Kumar.
Sources said the Ranchi contractor did not equip all facilities in the hostel as agreed and left it abounded. The authorities of SNMMCH refused to take over the incomplete hostel in 2020. But sources said the present principal had to take over under pressure two months ago this year.
