Jamshedpur, April 16: In a major breakthrough, the police and paramilitary forces on Monday unearthed a hideout where Naxals set up IED-making unit for carrying out subversive activities in the forest cover of West Singhbhum district.

The IED-making unit was found at Hushipi under the Tonto thana area that falls in the Kolhan forest division during a search operation carried out by the police and paramilitary forces on Monday evening.

Significant cache of explosives and materials

The materials that have been found in the hideout include huge quantities of ammonia nitrate, sulfur powder, gunpowder and cans.

Apart from these explosives and chemicals, the police have found plastic and aluminium pipes of various sizes, petrol, grinder machine besides other materials.

These apart, 21 arrows meant for making arrow bombs were also recovered from the hideout.

Massive presence of Naxals in Kolhan forest division

It may be mentioned here that a big number of CPI-Maoist rebels have sneaked into the Kolhan forest division on being driven out from the adjoining Saranda forest in the beginning of 2023, leading the police and paramilitary forces to launch a concerted operation to flush the rebels out.

Police, paramilitary forces have unearthed over 100 IEDs so far

But having entered into the dense Kolhan forest division, the Naxals had planted unspecified number IEDs at strategic locations so as to prevent anti-insurgency action from the police and paramilitary forces.

As of now, the police and paramilitary forces have succeeded to unearth over a hundred IEDs by risking their lives during the operation. It was for the first time that the police and the paramilitary forces have succeeded in detecting an IED-making unit from the Naxals’ hideout in West Singhbhum, thus triggering a severe blow to the rebel outfit.
