Dhanbad, July 12: A security personnel of IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) committed suicide in the institute-based quarter on Friday morning.
Police said on Friday morning at around 10.30 am his colleague saw him hanging with a rope in the room which was locked from inside. The body was brought out after breaking the door.
Rajiv Giri was on Commando Security roll
The security staff was identified as Rajiv Giri (38), a resident of Manjiadih village of the Gaya district of Bihar. He was a staff of private Commando Security and had been associated with the agency since February 2023.

Getting information, IIT ISM director Sukumar Mishra, deputy director Dheeraj Kumar and security department officers of the institution reached the spot.
Field officer of Commando Security agency Puneswar Singh told media persons that Rajiv Giri took leave on Tuesday saying that he was not feeling well. On Wednesday, he did not join duty. Since Thursday and Friday, he had weekly off (two days) the agency did not notice him. But today in the morning his suicide was reported to the agency.
Sandeep Giri, the brother-in-law of Rajiv Giri, who lives in Dhanbad, also reached IIT ISM after getting information. Post-mortem reports can open the cause of suicide.
