Dhanbad, Sept 18: Over 260 IIT (ISM) Dhanbad students demonstrated their creativity and problem-solving skills at the internal Smart India Hackathon (SIH), organised by the Naresh Vashistha Centre for Tinkering and Innovation (NVCT) at the institute.
The hackathon featured innovative solutions to various industrial challenges, with the winning teams set to represent IIT (ISM) Dhanbad at the national-level Smart India Hackathon 2024.
Innovative solutions and prototypes
Prof. Saurabh Srivastava highlighted the event’s success, stating that it brought together teams of innovative minds to address a variety of real-world industrial problems in both software and hardware categories.
“During the hackathon, students worked to develop innovative solutions across a range of problem statements provided by various industries,” he said.
He noted that the students’ ideas and prototypes showcased the talent, dedication, and creativity of the next generation of engineers and innovators.

Fostering innovation and entrepreneurship
Prof. Alok Kumar Das, Dean of Innovation, Incubation, and Entrepreneurship (IIE) at IIT (ISM), emphasized that the Internal SIH 2024 aimed to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.
“The Internal SIH 2024 was conducted with the aim of fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, empowering students to make meaningful contributions to society through technology and creative problem-solving,” he said.
Connecting academia with industry
Prof. Das further explained that SIH is a premier nationwide initiative designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application.
He said that the event offers a dynamic platform for students to develop creative solutions to industry challenges, encouraging collaboration with industry experts, government bodies, and other stakeholders.
“SIH is a unique convergence of academia, industry, and government,” he noted, underscoring the importance of such collaborations in fostering practical problem-solving skills.
