IIT ISM Dhanbad welcomes 11 international students

Dhanbad, Sept 10: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indian School of Mines (ISM) hosted a warm welcome for its newly admitted international students at a special event held at the International Hostel.

The Office of the Dean of International Relations and Alumni Affairs (IRAA), in collaboration with the Student Alumni and International Relations Cell, organized the event.

11 students from various countries enrolled

Each of the newly enrolled international students was felicitated with a memento during the ceremony. The students, hailing from different countries, shared insights about their cultures and national flags, creating a vibrant atmosphere of cross-cultural exchange.

This year, 11 students from Cambodia, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, Nepal, and Bangladesh, among others, have already enrolled in various postgraduate programs, including M.Tech, M.Sc. Tech, MBA, and PhD. An additional 19 international students are expected to join soon.

Three students under the ICCR initiative are also expected to join soon, and five others from self-sponsored programs are likely to join in the upcoming winter session.

Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director of IIT ISM, served as the chief guest for the occasion. He informed the students about the institute’s numerous academic offerings, as well as its diverse range of clubs, cultural events, and sporting activities that foster an enriching campus life.

Encouraging cultural exchange

In his address, Prof. R.M. Bhattarjee, Dean of International Relations and Alumni Affairs, emphasised the importance of cultural exchange in the modern educational landscape. He encouraged international students to engage with their Indian peers and integrate fully into campus life.

Other distinguished faculty members, including Prof. Rajni Singh (Dean of Corporate Communications), Prof. S.K. Gupta (Dean of Students Welfare), Prof. Sagar Pal (Dean of Research & Development), and Prof. Subhashis Chatterjee (Dean of Faculty), also addressed the gathering.

Prof. Tanmoy Maity, Associate Dean of International Relations and Alumni Affairs, and Prof. Gauri Shankar, Associate Dean of International Relations, shared additional insights with the students.

The event concluded with a cultural program presented by the students, further enhancing the spirit of unity and cultural exchange at IIT ISM.
