Dhanbad, March 13: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Jamshedpur chapter and Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy have engaged in an unpleasant collision course.
Reacting to Saryu Roy’s privilege notice, IMA Jamshedpur president Dr GC Majhi and Secretary Dr Saurabh Choudhary, while opening a front against the MLA, said that if the constitution has given the MLA (Saryu Roy) some privileges, we, being common men, also have some fundamental rights to take our stand.
IMA fights for doctors’ honour
Dr Majhi and Dr Choudhary said the IMA fights for doctors’ honour and dignity. “If anyone with a personal agenda tries to humiliate doctors, the IMA will continue to raise its voice against that,” they asserted.
MLA writes to Speaker
MLA Saryu Roy on Tuesday wrote to the assembly speaker to take action against the Jamshedpur IMA president and secretary. In his privilege notice, Roy had alleged that both the office bearers held press conferences and opposed him raising questions in the assembly.

“Saryu Roy can raise any question in the assembly under his right, and it is his privilege, but the Constitution of India has not given him any right to insult a senior woman doctor,” they maintained.
‘MLA wants to gag our voice’
The Jamshedpur IMA chapter president and secretary alleged that MLA Saryu Roy wants to gag our voice. “The IMA had requested him to talk, but he preferred a path of privilege notice,” they said.
“It shows Saryu Roy intentionally submitted an application to the assembly speaker to humiliate the IMA Jamshedpur president, secretary, and senior woman doctor and issued that in the media,” they said.
The IMA Jamshedpur also charged that the MLA is trying to intimidate us by releasing a report in the media, but the doctors’ bodies would not succumb. The matter of a doctor is pending in the High Court. Still, the MLA brought it in public, they added.
