Dhanbad, Feb 28: An intermediate girl student from the district tragically took her own life by consuming poison after repeatedly demanding an Android smartphone. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Putki police station.

On the morning of February 24, she was rushed to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) in critical condition, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment today.

According to her family, the girl had been insisting on getting an Android smartphone for some time. On the evening of February 23, she consumed poison and started vomiting. Initially unaware that it was a case of poisoning, her family took her to a local doctor. However, as her condition worsened, she was admitted to the hospital.

Her brother, Brajendra Gope, expressed shock, stating that they never expected her to take such a drastic step over a mobile phone. He mentioned that she had appeared for her examination on February 22 and began requesting the phone soon after.

“We were not in a financial position to buy such an expensive phone immediately, but we promised to get it for her within two months,” said Brajendra, denying any involvement of love affairs in her decision.

Putki police station officer in charge, Waquar Hussain, confirmed that a probe would be conducted once the post-mortem report is received.
