Jamshedpur, Dec 12: In a significant legal development, the court of First Class Judicial Magistrate Ajay Kumar Gudiya, Jamshedpur, has taken cognizance against 10 members of a Nishad family from Sonari in connection with allegations of fraud, assault, and criminal intimidation.
The order came after a detailed hearing on a complaint filed by Manoj, a resident of Sonari B Block, who accused his wife and her relatives of forging documents, misleading him about her age, assaulting him, and issuing threats.
Allegations of Age Fraud and Document Forgery
According to the complaint, Manoj married Lucky Kumari on January 22, 2023, following Hindu rituals. At the time of the marriage, Lucky’s family allegedly produced an Aadhaar card showing her to be an adult.

However, when Manoj later initiated the procedure for court marriage registration, Lucky presented a second Aadhaar card and a JAC Board certificate that revealed she was a minor. Both Aadhaar cards reportedly carried the same number, raising immediate suspicion.

Claims of Assault and Intimidation
Manoj claimed that his inquiry into the matter confirmed that Lucky’s family had forged documents to force the marriage. When he confronted them, Lucky’s relatives allegedly took her away along with jewellery and a mobile phone worth four lakh rupees.
The complaint further states that Lucky subsequently posted Manoj’s photo on Instagram and used abusive language. When he objected, the accused allegedly arrived at his house, assaulted him, and threatened him with serious consequences if he refused to continue living with Lucky.
Manoj approached the Sonari police, but no action was taken. Following this, he moved court. The court directed the police to register an FIR, but the police closed the case citing lack of evidence. Manoj again sought judicial intervention, after which the court examined the evidence afresh.
Court’s Cognizance and Charges
Upon reviewing the materials placed on record, the court took cognizance under Sections 417 (cheating), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 506/34 (criminal intimidation with common intention) of the IPC against the accused — Lucky Kumari, her mother Dhiraj Devi, relatives Raju Nishad, Pooja Devi, Rajwati Devi, Danish Nishad of Sonari, Phool Kumari, Deepak Kumar Singh, Pradeep Kumar Singh, and his wife Phoolmat Devi.
