Ranchi, August 30: The Junior Doctors Association (JDA) of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, has urgently requested Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Health Minister Banna Gupta to remove the current home guard personnel from the campus.

The association is calling for the deployment of a new security agency in response to an incident that occurred on August 27.

Concerns over safety and unrest

In their letter, the JDA highlighted that the continued presence of home guards following the incident on August 27 could exacerbate unrest and create a sense of insecurity among both students and doctors.

They argued that merely replacing the current batch of home guards with another set will not resolve the issue. The JDA emphasized the need for a new security agency to ensure a safe and conducive environment on campus.

“So, deploy another security agency on the campus for a congenial environment. The replacement of the present batch of home guards with another will not bring the solution”, said JDA.

Incident details and current security situation

Currently, home guards from the districts of Saraikela, Chatra, and Chaibasa are stationed at the RIMS campus.

The JDA has sent copies of their letter to the Principal Secretary of Health, the RIMS Superintendent, the Deputy Superintendent, the Dean of Academics, and the Dean of Student Welfare.

The JDA has informed the Chief Minister and Health Minister that student security deteriorated on Tuesday evening. When Dr. Lakhan Majhi attempted to file an FIR in response to the home guards’ rude behaviour, approximately 40 to 50 drunken home guards in civilian clothes assaulted first and second-year MBBS students in the badminton hall—an unprecedented and alarming incident and one which has never occurred before.

Action and support

The JDA has expressed hope that the RIMS administration will act on their request to replace the current home guards with a new security agency.

They have also warned of escalating their movement if the offending home guards are not identified, apprehended, and brought to justice by the given deadline of 5 PM tomorrow.

The letter is signed by JDA President Dr. Ankit Kumar, Executive President Dr. Abhishek Laguri, Vice-Presidents Dr. Abhishek Hansdak, Dr. Archana Kumari, Dr. Kumari Kirti, Dr. Ansu Soni, Secretary Dr. OM Prakash, Joint Secretaries Dr. Ranjeet Kumar, Dr. Indradeo Kisku, Dr. Akash Rohit Kujur, Dr. Prerna Nag, and Dr. Ravi Gond. Additionally, patrons Dr. Jaideep Kumar, Dr. Ranvijay, Dr. Praveen, Dr. G. Shukla, and Dr. Ujala M have also signed.

The IMA Medical Students Network (MSN) state body, represented by President Dr. Vikash Kumar and Secretary Dr. Raghvendra, has also backed the JDA’s demand for the removal of the home guards.
