Ranchi, September 17: Babulal Hembrom, who is a young cadet of Jharkhand State Sports Promotion Society (JSSPS) Sports Academy (Khelgoan), which is a joint initiative of Central Coalfields Limited and Govt. of Jharkhand, won gold medal in the under 49 weight category in the ongoing Youth Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship (16-21 Sept) at Suva Fiji. Babulal also set a new record in this Championship.

Sports Academy project, Hotwar Ranchi came into being with funding in the ratio 50:50 and is operated through JSSPS- Local Management Committee(LMC). LMC is manned by CCL officials from different departments, who look after the day-to-day operation and management of the Sports Academy. The main objective of opening Sports Academy, Khelgaon is to promote and encourage talented budding children of Jharkhand in the world of sports.

Babulal Hembrom is a resident of Hesa Garha village of Ramgarh district, his father Kaila Majhi is a labourer and his mother Dheni Devi is working as a cook in Aaganbadi in the same district.

Babulal Hembrom’s journey in sports began after he was selected for Sports Academy, JSSPS in 2018. Babulal has undergone rigorous training under Gurvinder Singh and won many medals in national and international events.

At present, there are a total of 286 trainees in the JSSPS Sports Academy who are being trained by professional coaches in a total of 11 sports disciplines such as weightlifting, cycling, boxing, wrestling etc.
The higher management of CCL, members of JSSPS, senior official P N Roy, coaches of various sports disciplines and others congratulated and wished Babulal for his excellent performance.
