Jamshedpur, July 3: The Jugsalai Municipal Council has embarked on the ‘Swachhata Apnao, Bimari Bhagao’ initiative, a campaign launched under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0.

Initiative to tackle health risks during monsoon

Running from July 1 to August 31, 2024, this initiative aims to bolster the preparedness of urban local bodies to tackle the challenges posed by heavy rainfall and increased health risks during the monsoon season.

The initiative aligns with the ‘Dasta Roko Abhiyaan’ of the Ministry of Health, seeking collaborative efforts and inter-sectoral convergence among various ministries and departments to address sanitation and health challenges during the monsoon season.

About ‘Swachhata Apnao, Bimari Bhagao’ campaign

The key components of the ‘Swachhata Apnao, Bimari Bhagao’ campaign include special cleanliness drives, efficient collection and disposal of waste, regular cleaning of community and public toilets, ensuring sanitation facilities are well-maintained, focusing on clean and healthy environments for children, adequate testing and supply of safe drinking water, ensuring water infrastructure is in good condition, and planning and executing Information, education, and communication campaigns.

The initiative includes rapid assessments to identify high-risk areas and the adoption of the Protection-Prevention-Treatment Strategy (PPTS). Coordination and monitoring will be integral to the success of the campaign.

Information imparted to children of Bal Bharti School

As part of the Cleanliness Adoption and Diseases Campaign, on July 3, information was imparted to the children of Bal Bharti School on tackling cleanliness and disease-related challenges.

Detailed explanations were given on dealing with stagnant water issues in tyres, which can lead to diseases such as dengue, malaria, hepatitis B and typhoid.

The session also covered essential practices such as drinking boiled water, washing and using vegetables and fruits brought from the market, and consuming cooked food.

Door-to-door garbage collection, regular cleaning of drains

In line with the initiative, the Jugsalai Nagar Parishad is strengthening door-to-door garbage collection, ensuring regular cleaning of drains, and maintaining modular, community, and public toilets.

The launch event saw the presence of the executive officer, city manager, cleanliness experts, school principal, teachers, and other officials, highlighting the collective effort to promote cleanliness and health.

The ‘Swachhata Apnao, Bimari Bhagao’ initiative is a testament to Jugsalai Municipal Council’s commitment to enhancing sanitation and health standards, ensuring a safer and cleaner environment for all residents during the monsoon season.
