Dhanbad, Oct 1: In a shocking incident, 55-year-old land dealer Shabuddin Siddiqui was gunned down by unidentified assailants in broad daylight. The shooting took place on the 8-lane road in Nawadih near Asarfi Hospital, under the Sadar police station jurisdiction, this afternoon.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for law and order, Dipak Kumar, said that the incident occurred at around 1 pm. As Shabuddin stepped out of his car, the attackers fired at him, hitting him in the neck at close range. The shooters, reportedly three individuals on a bike, fled the scene immediately after the attack.

Shabuddin was rushed to Asarfi Hospital, but despite receiving medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Following the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) HP Janardhan formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by the City Superintendent of Police, to investigate the crime.

Details of the attack

Shabuddin, a resident of Pandarpala under Bhuli police station, owned ‘Shan Developer and Builder’ located along the 8-lane road. His nephew, who was present with him, recounted that they had arrived at the office from Jharia around 1 pm. As Shabuddin got out of the car, the shooters, who had been waiting, opened fire on him from close range.

Police officers, including DSP Dipak Kumar and the Officer-in-Charge of Dhanbad Sadar police station, arrived at the scene to begin investigations. DSP Kumar mentioned that CCTV footage showed the three shooters fleeing the area on a single bike.

Deceased was previously assigned a bodyguard

“The body has been sent for post-mortem. Raids are being conducted at various locations to apprehend the shooters,” DSP Kumar stated.

It was also revealed that Shabuddin had previously been assigned a bodyguard due to receiving threatening calls from criminals. However, the security guard was later withdrawn after the issue was reportedly resolved.

The police are now conducting extensive raids to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
