PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, Sept 26: A sudden bolt of lightning claimed the lives of two men in Namshol village under Bodam police station limits on Friday afternoon, plunging the community into deep sorrow.

The deceased have been identified as Prabhash Singh (45), a farmer, and Chakradhar Mahato (44), a wage labourer.

Eyewitnesses said the duo had completed their work in a cauliflower field and were sharing a meal with two fellow workers under a neem tree when the fatal strike occurred. Both men died on the spot, while the others escaped unscathed.

Alarmed villagers rushed to the scene and shifted the victims to Chirudih Nursing Home, where doctors pronounced them dead. Police later arrived, took custody of the bodies, and sent them to MGM Medical College for autopsy.

The unexpected calamity has devastated the families, with grief-stricken relatives and villagers mourning inconsolably.

Locals have urged the administration to extend adequate compensation and relief to the bereaved households, while also stressing the importance of awareness campaigns to mitigate lightning-related tragedies.
