Daltonganj, July 3: ‘Mediation For Nation’ campaign has taken off on a positive note in the civil courts in Daltonganj on/from July 1.
‘Mediation For Nation’ was conceptualised by the Chief Justice of India B R Gavai and Justice Surya Kant. It’s a 90-day campaign ending on September 30.
Court sources in Daltonganj said, “The Principal District and Sessions Judge (PDSJ) Diwakar Pandey and Secretary of District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Rakesh Ranjan and team are all out to make this ‘Mediation For Nation’ a household name in Palamu where people are pretty fond of taking every dispute or discord to the court of law.”

A theft of goat, although a big money loss to one whose goat is stolen since it’s a poor villager’s ATM, is fought in the police station, which finally ends up in litigation.

Mediation: An Effective Alternative to Litigation
Here, alternative dispute resolution, of which mediation is a powerful vessel for settlement or agreement, comes to the fore.
Court sources said ‘Mediation For Nation’ has all the potentiality of bringing in two warring sides to resolve their disputes or differences amicably and without any rancour or bitterness.
Regret or repentance has little room in mediation since mediation is a powerful means to an end where the two warring sides and in between neutral third party (mediator) plays a ‘distant refree’ to the dispute without imposing or superimposing anything on any of the two sides.
It’s a hundred cases a month on an average that come for mediation in the civil courts in Daltonganj, said court sources.
Push to Strengthen Mediation Amid Mixed Success Rates
Secretary of DLSA Palamu Rakesh Ranjan said, “Our endeavour is to double up this average a month. We believe and promote resolution. There is no substitute for resolution.”
There are 16 mediators here in the civil courts in Daltonganj. The number of female mediator is just one. It’s time to add to the number of female mediators, said court sources.
Success rate of the mediation here in the civil courts in Daltonganj is variable and fluctuating as it was 67 per cent this June, the overall percentage of success in mediation was between 42 to 45 per cent in the year 2024.
Court sources said not all mediators or mediations are a success. Some mediators have a cakewalk. Some of them struggle. Some, despite strenuous efforts, fail.
A successful mediator is much in demand than those who miss the bull’s eye.

Mediation Pays Off—Literally and Legally
DLSA Secretary said, “I as a coordinator review the performance of the mediators, and where it is found there is something lagging behind or lacking, then the result-oriented one is given more chances, after all our aim and objective is to reach dispute resolution.”
A successful mediation brings cheers to not only to the parties involved who walk back home with peace and harmony, the successful mediators, too have their pockets bulging with 5,000 rupees and those who miss to strike an understanding and conciliation are to settle with 2,500 rupees.
Mediation and conciliation are synonyms of each other but it’s mediation that is talked more. A ‘mediated affair’ is strong and lasting till either of the two sides just does not overjumps it. Any breach or isolation of the mediated affair is to reach trial, and so it’s time to give ‘Mediation For Nation’ a big hand, as it has multiple benefits.
