Ranchi, Oct 13: Pakur doctors today called off their strike after the police administration arrested the main accused Vijay Saha involved in assaulting medicos.
Government doctors of Pakur had gone on an indefinite strike on October 11 to arrest assaulters who beat up medicos in Sadar Hospital following the death of a cancer patient.
The incident occurred on October 7. Patient Manju Devi, suffering from breast cancer for the last five years, was admitted in critical condition and died during treatment. Family members beat up doctors. In this regard, Dr Anand Kumar filed an FIR against them.
“Since police arrested the main accused, we called off our strike,” said Dr Thakur, Secretary of the JHSA state body
Dr Sushil Kumar, chairman of the Junior Doctors Network (JDN) said doctors had to take drastic steps as a similar incident (beating doctors) had happened one and half months ago. “So, we took it seriously this time and the strike was called,” he said.
Admn to take tough action
Dr Sushil said Pakur superintendent of police Prabhat Kumar not only arrested the main accused but has also issued a notice of taking tough action against assaulter of doctors in the district. “If any death or untoward incident happens in a hospital, do not take the law in hand and misbehave with the doctor. The administration would not tolerate this,” said SP Prabhat Kumar.
RIMS, SNMMCH junior doctors express concern
Meanwhile, the Junior Doctors Association (JDA) of Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) Ranchi and Junior Doctors Network (JDN) members of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad have expressed concern over attacks on doctors in Kolkata and Jharkhand.

The JDA Ranchi while expressing solidarity with junior doctors of RG Kar Medical College, has shot off a letter to the Bengal chief minister and union health ministry saying that doctors at RIMS will not stand idle as our colleagues are sitting on fast unto death agitation for the survival of medical fraternity.
President Dr Ankit Kumar, executive president Dr Abhishek Laguri, vice-president Dr Abhishek Hansdak, Dr Jaideep Kumar, Dr Ranvijay, Dr Praveen, Dr G Shukla, Dr Ujala, secretary Dr Om Prakash, in a signed letter, have demanded immediate addressing junior doctors’ demand.

Members of the Junior Doctors Network demonstrated in support of Pakur doctors and showed solidarity with their strike.
