Daltonganj, Feb 20: The Kasturba Gandhi Balika Awasiya Vidyalaya (KGBAV) Paton is in shock. Inmates are yet to overcome the grief left behind by a young accounts clerk of this school Priyanka who died by suicide on Wednesday.
Palamu District Education Officer (DEO) Saurav Prakash, speaking to Jharkhand Story correspondent today said, “We are extremely saddened by this tragic episode that occurred in this residential school. Our sympathies and condolences are to the bereaved family.”
Efforts to Support Grieving Students
Saurav Prakash agreed, “The atmosphere of this school is thick with sorrow. A sense of general trauma pervades here.”

“We are to help the inmates of this school to come out of the shock. I will be visiting this school more times than ever. I will be interacting with the girl students here,” he added.
A mental succour is far more useful than any medication, said sources. And the mental succour comes from within, said a doctor here.
There will be a parent-teacher meet here. It will be an exercise to wipe out the grim memory, said Saurav Prakash.

Grief dissolves in mass conversation. Further young girls who used to be highly sentimental are to be shown that death by suicide is never any solution to any problem but it is a floodgate of many problems and miseries.
So respect life. Live life. It should not be wasted. There is no challenge in life which can’t be won or defeated. Such encouraging words can soothe the traumatised minds of the inmates here, said sources.
Plans for Mental Health Support and Counselling
The DEO said, “We are mooting a plan to have some health event here like a cultural event to beat the melancholy and monotony here arising from the episode of death by suicide.”
Reminded that the WHO has asked for medical counselling in the post death by suicide episode to which Saurav Prakash said, “I will be in touch with the Palamu Civil Surgeon requesting him to send in some doctors to this residential school to boost the confidence and morale of the girls here.”
A doctor’s arrival here is a confidence-building measure.
Sources said death by suicide leaves a trail of more negative stories which a sensible and saner society has to cut short.
The Palamu DEO’s concern for the students and teachers is well appreciative.
