Minority Community Cites Reasons for Route Change

A member of the majority community had straightway alleged that Muharram celebrators are ‘hell bent on taking a metallic route of the procession of Tazia other than the traditional licensed one, which shouldn’t be allowed by the administration.’

This member of the majority community had further alleged that such a move to use a new route of procession of Tazia other than the licensed one has an evil intention.

Very seldom in peace committee meeting there comes immediate and on the spot reaction as it was seen in this CPC meeting when countering/ refuting the allegation of the member of the majority community, a member of the minority community rose to explain that following the rains the rivulet that lies in the old, traditional and licenced route has prompted to take a new route of the procession of Tazia further denying any ill motive behind this.

Administration Alerted to Possible Flashpoint

The allegations and the rebuttal of it in the peace committee meeting were taken as ‘ominous’ sign by the administration.

These rumblings of the peace committee meeting were enough to raise an alarm to the DC Sameera S and SP Reeshma Ramesan. These two tops right on the spur of the moment, asked the CO and OC (police station head) to deal with the issue aptly and suitably.

Lack of Trust in Each Other

On Friday, ‘the worms were out of the can’. The two communities looked at loggerheads of each other. There was a visible deficit of trust and confidence in each other.

Sources said the administration had set up a drop gate to put a stop to any diversion of the passage of the Tazia procession, which was uprooted where the two communities raised fingers of doubt at each other.

DJ Van at Centre of Controversy

Sources said it was the passage of the DJ sound van that was pushed forward more than the passage of the Tazia procession. The DJ sound van was primarily and secondarily at the core of the discontent between the two communities here at Pahley Kalan.

DJ sound van is termed as a nuisance van here in Palamu, which, however, has a large following of it who believes ‘if there is no DJ sound van, there is no festivity at all’.

Sources said the administration did try to ‘contain’ the DJ sound van, but the youths of the minority community ‘walked away with it.’ Sources said there were ‘faces of angry youths which appeared to be not local ones’ and these faces held the civil and police officials in heated arguments.

Pahley Kalan’s Power Dynamics Add Complexity

Sources said there is a vicious game of upmanship at village Pahley Kalan, where economic and political superiority call the shots more than anything else. This village is a political bastion of those who win the election and also to those who lose the election.

Sources said the administration is keeping a close monitoring and watch here at Pahley Kalan, where it has given a strict warning of severe action against person or persons who indulge in any aberration detrimental to public tranquillity.
