Daltonganj, September 23: Palamu police hit two birds with one stone! It first busted a gang planning to loot a petrol pump and then the disclosures made by the gang led to the recovery of stolen gold!
Palamu police had never thought of having such a dividend it got with a single stroke.
Chhaterpur police in Palamu foiled an imminent commission of crime and solved a crime, committed nearly two weeks ago.
It was like a game of chess where the police had their big last laugh, checkmating the criminals.
Planned robbery prevented
It was a highly fruitful action of the Chhaterpur police team led by SDPO Naushad Alam, under the supervision of SP Reeshma Ramesan.
A sinister plan of crime was nipped in the bud and a crime committed two weeks ago was solved with no extra effort.
Abortion of crime and the busting of crime that occurred earlier hardly go together. Here it was most evident.
Police made a rich recovery of gold and ‘guns’. 54 grams of gold worth more than 7.50 lakhs of rupees as per market price which is little over 7,000 rupees per 1 gram in Jharkhand were recovered by the police.
How the plan for looting the petrol pump was frustrated. Here it is.
SP Palamu Reeshma Ramesan told this correspondent, “We got a tip-off about 8 to 10 criminals huddled together and planning to loot a petrol pump.”
The location of the criminals was somewhere between Chhaterpur-Japla road, a distance of 30 kms.

Criminals caught and weapons seized
Police swung into action and headed towards the assemblage of the criminals as the tip-off was pinpointed.
The tip-off was not fake. There were 10 there. Five of the 10 managed to flee on seeing the police. The remaining five were caught who couldn’t escape.
Reeshma Ramesan said, ” Bihar’s thieves dominated the gang of five. Among the five caught only one is of Palamu. The rest four are from Bihar’s Aurangabad district. All the five are in the age group of 19 to 24.”
The five arrested have been identified as Rakesh Kumar, 19 (Palamu), Pankaj Paswan, 21, Vishal Soni, 22, Vikas Soni, 24 and Rahul Kumar, 21.
Police recovered two bikes, one pistol with two 7.65 mm cartridges, one katta with two 8mm cartridges, two daggers and five cell phones from these five arrested.
Unexpected recovery of stolen gold
This abortion of planning of crime commission saved a petrol pump from being looted, yielding five arrests and weapons and ammunition but there came a tangent gain for the police also which proved very precious.
It was these five arrested who gave a stunning clue to a snatching crime committed already on September 5.
On September 5, one Ashok Soni was waylaid of his 100 grams of gold and silver in some kgs.
These five were arrested and the other five who managed to give a slip now, had distributed this looted 100 grams of gold @ 10 grams per each of the ten of them.
So, by this account, the five arrested had 50 grams of looted gold in all. It was really with them.
Reeshma Ramesan said police recovered 54 grams of gold, four grams more, as per their own decision to distribute the looted gold. The robbers were contented with 10 grams of gold each among 10 of them.

Police eye on remaining suspects
The SP said, “These five had no inkling that they would be caught by the police. They had kept the looted gold in its original form. They didn’t get it melted.”
The arrested five have revealed one thing more to the police.
It is about the five escapees who, they claimed, were in the loot of cash at the customer service point long ago.
Palamu police now aim to nab these five who escaped.
