Daltonganj, March 26: Palamu police made a huge haul of little over 54 kg of marijuana and drugs which are either sedative or mood elevator. Illicit arms were also recovered.

It is like a deadly trio of arms, marijuana and drugs. All carry a cash value.

According to the Palamu SP Reeshma Ramesan “Out of little over 54 kgs of marijuana, 49.95 kgs of it were recovered from 4 people who all hail from Bodh district in Orissa.”

4.5 kg marijuana seized from elderly couple

Reeshma Ramesan said “Police seized nearly four and a half kg of marijuana from an elderly couple identified as Vishnu Singh, 68 and his wife Phulrseari 64 at Court Khas under the Lesliganj police station limits.

Here the police did not only recover marijuana. It recovered a huge stock of prohibited drugs. The elderly couple were the operators. Lesliganj police unfolded the marijuana and drugs racket being run by the elderly couple quite silently.

A small balance with petty weight for measuring 10 grams to 200 grams was seized too.

The smaller weight measurement is for marijuana which an addict can do with just 10 gm of it depending on how much money a drug addict has in his pocket for it.

Reeshma Ramesan added, “This rural elderly couple were indulged in the sale-purchase of drugs prohibited and to be sold on the prescription of the registered medical practitioner.”

Vishnu Singh has a history of crime and his son too has a similar notoriety of crime.

Prohibited drugs recovered

Police seized 141 bottles of Codeine syrup, 963 tablets for anti-insomnia Nitrosun 1,03,487 tablets of Alprazolam and 1440 tablets of Spasmo Proxyvon from the elderly couple.

Reeshma Ramesan said “Palamu is now a transit route be it for marijuana or poppy or for drugs. The surface flow is to be curbed and contained.”

She said, “There used to be outgoing illicit wine from here but we see a consignment of illicit wine detours Palamu before getting out of this district.”

Reeshma Ramesan went on to say “Our drive against illicit wine and narcotics will be further intensified.”

Two desi kattas seized

She said police have also recovered 2 desi kattas one each from Tarhassi police station limits and from Lesliganj police station limits.

The Tarhassi seizure of the illicit katta was all for a picture of a youth having it in his waist bulging out.

Newsmen were today given 3 press notes making their tasks all the more compound.
