Jamshedpur, June 17: A fatal accident took place early Tuesday morning at the Tatanagar railway station on the Tatanagar–Badampahar rail route when a passenger slipped while trying to board a moving train.

He died on the spot, while a fellow passenger was injured.

The victim, 52-year-old Basant Vishwakarma, was a resident of Harharguttu in Jamshedpur and worked as a motorcycle mechanic.

He was traveling with his friend Sanjay Sharma to board the Tatanagar–Badampahar MEMU (Train No. 68129).

According to eyewitnesses, the train had already started moving when Sanjay managed to climb aboard. Basant, however, lost his balance and slipped under the train, which dragged him several meters before coming to a halt. He died instantly due to severe injuries.

Sanjay Sharma, who witnessed the fall, jumped from the train and sustained minor injuries.

He was treated on the spot. The Railway police later recovered the body and began further investigation.

Railway Safety Reminder

The Tatanagar–Badampahar line, operated by the South Eastern Railway Zone, serves daily commuters across Jharkhand and Odisha.

Despite regular safety warnings, incidents involving passengers attempting to board or exit moving trains continue to occur.

Railway authorities have been urging the public to follow safety protocols strictly to avoid such tragic incidents.
