Familiar Ground and Clear Priorities
Speaking to the media after assuming office, SSP Piyush Pandey said, “This is my second posting in Jamshedpur. Earlier, I served as the Rural SP here and am well-acquainted with the district’s geographical and social landscape. My foremost priority will be ensuring public safety, strengthening law and order, and controlling crime.”
He recalled his experience during the 2019 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, stating, “During that time, with support from all departments, administrative officers, social organizations, and the public, we conducted peaceful elections. I am confident that I will receive the same cooperation once again.”
Outgoing SSP Reflects on Tenure
Outgoing SSP Kishore Kaushal shared his reflections on his tenure, describing it as a memorable experience. “I received unwavering support from police officers, administrative authorities, social organizations, the Chamber of Commerce, and even political parties,” he said.
Highlighting the role of public cooperation, Kaushal added, “For any police officer, the biggest asset is the trust and support of the people. I was fortunate to receive that in abundance and believe that the same trust will extend to the new SSP.”

Strategic Policing Measures on the Agenda
Soon after taking charge, SSP Pandey signalled a clear roadmap to tackle the rising crime rate and improve traffic management. He is expected to convene review meetings with officers from all police stations to understand specific challenges and requirements.
Sources indicate that key priorities include strengthening patrolling, expanding the CCTV network, combating cybercrime, and enhancing community policing. Pandey is already working on strategic measures to address these areas effectively.
The appointment of Piyush Pandey has generated a positive buzz among citizens and the business community. His effective past tenure in the rural areas has built expectations that he will now bring the same efficiency to urban policing.
SSP Pandey also emphasized the importance of direct public interaction. He plans to make the public grievance redressal process more efficient and enhance police-public relations through active use of social media platforms.
With this new leadership, Jamshedpur looks ahead to improved law enforcement and strengthened community engagement.
