Jamshedpur, April 21: In a major breakthrough, the police have seized a huge consignment of ‘doda’ from the Naxal-infested Bandhgao police station area in West Singhbhum late on Sunday night.
The police seized 92 sacks of doda which is a byproduct of opium and, of course is intoxicating.
The cost of the seized consignment of doda in the market was estimated to be Rs 3 crores and twenty-four lakhs.
According to a press release issued by the West Singhbhum police on Sunday evening, the police got an intelligence input that a huge number of sacks containing doda was ready to be shifted from Barjo village in the Bandhgao thana area.
Acting on the information, the West Singhbhum SP, Ashutosh Shekhar set up a team headed by SDPO, Chakradharpur to raid the place in question.

According to the press release, the information that the district police had received was correct. The police team that raided the Barjo village late on Saturday night and found the sacks. On checking them the police team found doda stuffed in each of the 92 sacks.
The police team subsequently seized the consignment immediately and brought them to the Bandhgao thana.
It may be mentioned here that doda is produced while processing opium from poppy flowers. Growing poppy plants is illegal, but as Bandhgao is a Naxal-infested area, several locals tend to do the poppy cultivation in remote areas.
As a matter of fact, seizure of such a huge quantity of doda from the Bandhgao thana area means that there must be a considerable lack on the part of the police in monitoring whether illegal doda cultivation is done there.
But it is to be investigated whether the 92 sacks of doda were stocked from the Bandhgao area itself or collected from elsewhere also.
