Jamshedpur, July 30: Railways today paid ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh each to the kin of two deceased passengers who lost their lives in the tragic rail mishap in which Howrah-Mumbai Mail got derailed near Barabambo railway station under South Eastern Railway’s Chakradharpur division in the early hours of today.
The kin of the deceased passengers, P. Bikash of Railway Colony, Rourkela and Ajit Kumar Samal of Malgodown, Rourkela were paid Rs 10 lakh compensation this afternoon.

Rs 5 lakh compensation to passengers with grievous injuries
Ex-gratia payment was also paid to eight injured passengers who were admitted to Chakradharpur Railway Hospital.
Rs 5 lakh were paid to each of the passengers who sustained grievous injuries while those who sustained minor injuries were paid Rs 1 lakh each.
A spokesman of South Eastern Railway told The Jharkhand Story from Kolkata that in the unfortunate train mishap, the Government of India through the railway ministry has announced payment of enhanced ex-gratia to the victims, as a special case on humanitarian grounds.

Banna Gupta and Dipak Birua visit mishap site
State health minister Banna Gupta accompanied by transport minister Dipak Birua and local legislator Dashrath Gagrai visited the mishap site to take stock of the situation.
The health minister said that the state government would extend all possible help to both the family of the deceased and the injured passengers.
SER arranges for transportation of passengers
Meanwhile, South Eastern Railway made special arrangements for the convenience of passengers.
A special bus service has been arranged for the transportation of passengers from the derailment spot.
Stranded passengers were carried to Chakradharpur station by a relief train.
Injured passengers were immediately shifted to Chakradharpur Railway Hospital and CHC Khutpani.
Over 60 mail, express and other passenger trains were cancelled due to the mishap while around 30 trains were made to run on a diverted route.
Railway officials of Chakradharpur said the movement of trains was completely paralysed in the Howrah-Mumbai trunk route after the mishap which took place around 3.40 am today.
