Jamshedpur, Aug 30: The doctor who was murdered following his abduction at Rajnagar in Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Thursday morning was killed inside the car itself as he had identified one of the three abductors while being taken in the car to an unknown destination.
Seraikela-Kharsawan SP Mukesh Lunayat said this while briefing the newsmen about the breakthrough in the sensational abduction-cum-murder of a ‘doctor’ under Rajnagar thana area on Thursday.
All three accused arrested
All the three persons involved in the abduction-cum-murder were arrested and the car as well as a pistol used in the crime have been seized.
Those arrested were identified as Chandan Gope, Tridev Gope and Rohit Kumar Singh, all residents of the Rajnagar thana area where the murder victim Dr Brihaspati Mondal was a prominent figure.

Criminals planned to extort Rs 20 lakh from doctor’s family
Revealing about the breakthrough, Lunayat said the motive behind the abduction was to extort Rs 20 lakhs ransom from the doctor’s family.
The trio had hatched a conspiracy to extort Rs 20 lakhs by abducting him. As the doctor used to sit in the clinic from 7.00 am to 10.00 am and he used to leave for home for some time before going to another clinic a little distance away.
Doctor was strangulated after he identified one of the abductors
“As soon as the doctor got into his car and started for the home, the criminals intercepted him on the way and forced him to sit in their car at gunpoint. He had been forced to sit between Chandan and Tridev. But he identified Tridev and incidentally asked him why was he abducting him despite knowing him well. On being identified, Tridev got scared and instantly strangulated him and fled leaving the body and his two associates,” narrated the SP while talking to the newsmen.
When the doctor was stuffed inside the car, the criminals had started making a video of him so that they may send the clipping to the victim’s family for demanding the ransom.
In between the police had got to know about the doctor’s abduction and had spread the message across the region, putting especially Potka and Kowali thana on alert as the car had moved towards that direction.
The criminals who were already nervous as there was no plan for the doctor’s murder moved towards an isolated place near Sukarbhalki village under Kowali thana area and dropped the body in a forest stretch there.

Killer arrested today
“Chandan and Rohit were subsequently stopped at a checking point given the description of the car they were travelling in. The Kowali police immediately detected that the two were the ones who had abducted the doctor and had taken them into custody, ” the senior police officer pointed out.
Lunayat said the third criminal, Tridev was arrested somewhere from Potka at the wee hours today only.
The Seraikela-Kharsawan SP clarified that Brihaspati Mondal was not an MBBS, but was rural medical practitioner.
