The train ticket examiner just appeared for once before pushing off for another coach. The train ticket examiner could not be told of rats in B9.

When asked how she and others spent the night of January 6/7 as this Delhi Ranchi Rajdhani Express train reached Daltonganj at 5.40 in the morning, the lady passenger said, “It was a nightmarish experience for the whole night. I was afraid of getting bitten by rats and then of the dread of the same anti-rabies shots that come in the event of the dog bite.”

This correspondent spoke to the Daltonganj railway station superintendent Umesh Kumar, apprising him of rats in the Rajdhani Express train, to which this railway official said, “Pest control can be done only at the train’s originating stations like Delhi or Ranchi.”

“This Delhi-Ranchi Rajdhani Express train has just a 2- 2-minute stoppage at the Daltonganj railway station. Nothing can be done in such a short period,” added Umesh Kumar.

The Indian railways have to cough up compensation for rat bites on passengers and damage to the passengers’ baggage by the rats.
