Jharkhand News: Residents protest AMC’s inaction as builders block drainage

Residents of Srinath Enclave riding through waterlogging on the approach road due to blocking of drainage system in Adityapur

Jamshedpur, March 10: While the Adityapur Municipal Corporation (AMC) like any other civic body, is making all efforts to keep its jurisdiction neat and clean under the ongoing Swachhta Abhiyaan, a section of builders in Adityapur is making a mockery of the much-hyped drive.

The chink in the Swachhta Abhiyaan in AMC area was exposed after about a hundred frenzied residents turned up at the AMC office, complaining about how hellish condition they have to reside due to some unscrupulous builders.

Blocked Drain Leads to Waterlogging and Health Concerns

Despite being a dry season, the residents living in Sunrise Enclave have to wade through the filth and sewage water, inviting vector-borne diseases in the colony.

Located near Satin, close to the Adityapur-Kandra four lane, the sprawling Srinath Enclave is one of the residential gated colonies in the densely-populated Adityapur.

The approach road to Sunrise Enclave was allright till recent months as there was a drainage system that was operational. But a new residential colony is coming up beside it, and the builder of the upcoming colony has blocked the drain of the Srinath Enclave, and this is the reason for the accumulation of filthy water along its approach road.

Residents Demand Action Against Erring Builder

The agitated Sunrise Enclave residents wanted to meet the AMC’s additional municipal commissioner Parul Singh, but as she was not at the office, they met the corporation’s executive engineer, Pankaj Jha and made him aware of their grievances.

The angry residents had also handed a memorandum to the executive engineer to resolve the issue by taking the erring builder into task. The protestors have threatened to intensify their agitation if the corporation fails to solve this serious problem.

One of the protestors, while talking to this correspondent, said that one can imagine what the situation will be during the rainy season near the Sunrise Enclave when its approach road gets filled with filthy water even during this dry season.

“The AMC authority are boasting of working as per the directive of the Central government when it comes to running the Swachhta Abhiyaan drive, but at the same time are letting waterlogging to form on the approach road of an existing colony by turning a blind eye towards an erring builder,” observed another protestor.

AMC to Investigate and Take Action

AMC executive engineer, Pankaj Jha, when approached by The Jharkhand Story said, “We will serve notice to the builder who has blocked the drainage of the Sunrise Enclave if the complaint is found to be true. ”

Jha, when queried, said that the building plans for any new project are looked after by a separate department and by the additional municipal commissioner only.
