Ranchi, Nov 15: The Junior Doctors Association (JDA) of Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) has strongly opposed the management’s decision to demolish the campus’s indoor stadium.
Expressing their concerns, the JDA has sent a letter to the RIMS director, vehemently opposing the demolition plan. The association has stated that the decision is detrimental to the students, and they will not allow the proposal to go through at any cost.
Joint opposition against the move
JDA president Dr. Ankit Kumar, executive president Dr. Abhishek Laguri, and vice-presidents Dr. Abhishek Hansdak, Dr. Amit Kumar, Dr. Archna Kumari, Dr. Kumari Kirti, and Dr. Ansu Soni, along with secretary Dr. OM Prakash, jointly signed the letter, which mentions that reliable sources have informed them of the management’s plan to demolish the indoor stadium to make way for a new OPD complex.
“We strongly oppose this as it is an inappropriate decision. Despite our protest, if the management begins this project, junior doctors and MBBS students will be compelled to stop the work in a peaceful and polite manner,” stated the JDA office bearers.

JDA’s demands
In their letter, the JDA has raised three key demands before the RIMS director. They have requested the construction of a new indoor stadium on the campus before the old one is demolished and the OPD project begins.
“We request the director to consider our simple and feasible demand as sports play a crucial role in the character development of students. It is not only for students but is their basic right,” said the JDA office bearers.
Threat to stop work if demolition proceeds
The JDA has warned that if the management proceeds with the demolition plan despite the opposition, they will take non-violent actions to halt the work.
The association’s firm stance on the issue reflects the growing dissatisfaction among the junior doctors regarding the proposed changes to the campus facilities.

Concern over recent attack on doctor in Dhanbad
The RIMS JDA has also expressed grave concern over the recent attack on Dr. Harsh Singh at JIMS Hospital in Dhanbad. In a letter to the Union Health Minister, the JDA has demanded the immediate enactment and implementation of the ‘Central Health Protection Act.’
“Violence against the medical fraternity has increased unabated across the country. An orthopaedic doctor, Dr. Harsh Singh, was brutally assaulted by the patient’s relatives in Dhanbad, while a renowned oncologist, Dr. Balaji Jagannath, was stabbed seven times by attendants in a Tamil Nadu hospital. So, JDA demands the implementation of the ‘Central Health Protection Act’,” the JDA stated in their letter.
The association has also sent a copy of the letter to the state health department, urging swift action on the matter.
