Dhanbad, July 6: Kaushlendra Kumar Singh and advocate Dhaneswar Mahto were elected chairman and vice-chairman respectively of the Dhanbad Red Cross Society for which the election was held after a gap of eight years.
The Deputy Commissioner (DC) is designated president of the Red Cross Society.
A notable point of the election was that former secretary and retired associate professor of Patliputra Medical College Hospital (PMCH) Dr US Prasad and pathologist Dr PK Sinha were defeated in the election.

However, dermatologist Dr Jimmy Abhishek was elected executive member of the Society while Dr AK Singh, state president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), who had been vice-president of the Red Cross Society since 2016 did not contest the election this time.
Red Cross Society’s last election was held in 2016
The last election of the Red Cross Society was held in 2016. DC Madhvi Mishra while presiding the annual general meeting (AGM) dissolved the old committee and ordered a fresh election. A total of 141 members out of 557 participated in the meeting.
Electoral officer Santosh Gupta (DCLR) said that ballots were used since members failed to elect office bearers unanimously.

10 executive members were elected
Based on the highest number of votes, 10 executive members were elected who selected Kaushlendra Kumar Singh and advocate Dhaneswar Mahto, chairman and vice-chairman respectively. DCLR Santosh Gupta said that the chairman and vice-chairman were authorised to select a treasurer.

Ten executive members who were elected to choose chairman and vice-chairman were:
Kaushlendra Kumar Singh, Dhaneswar Mahto, Dilip Kumar Singh, Kumar Madhurendra Singh, Benazeer Parveen, Swatambra Pathak, Devendra Kumar, Ashish Agrawal, Dr Jimmy Abhishek and Anil Kumar Bhagat.
The Dhanbad Red Cross Society was once the richest organization in south Bihar. After the creation of Jharkhand state in 2002, the then Governor Prabhat Kumar inaugurated its building. The first secretary was the late Atul Prasad followed by Dr Abeer Chakraborty, Dr US Prasad, and Dr PK Bhagat. They all made the institution strong.
In the 2016 election, Dr AK Singh (IMA state president) became vice president and Kaushlendra Kumar Singh secretary. OPD services were started and five ambulances were launched. “We had almost got sanctioned for Blood Bank but due to Covid, the proposal was derailed,” said Dr AK Singh.
Priorities for new society
The newly elected chairman said that re-starting ambulance service, setting up a Blood Bank, clearing dues of Rs 28 lakh and creating a fund are the main priorities of the new committee.
