Daltonganj, Jan. 3: Eight lifts out of 14 in the Medinirai Medical College and hostels are dysfunctional for six months to 2 years. Boys and girls living in the 8-storeyed hostels are the worst affected by the non-functional lifts.
Girls’ 9-storeyed hostel
There are two lifts each in the boys and girls’ hostel. These four lifts are dead. Boys and girls negotiate the staircases from the ground to the 8th floor and back for classes, lunch, dinner and sports activities.

There are 392 MBBS students now in this medical college.
Staff quarters lifts
However, four lifts in the staff quarters are working correctly. Here live faculty members, and as their lifts are operational, they hardly bother for the discomfort of the boys and girls, said sources in the medical college here.
There are six lifts in the college’s administrative building, and four lifts are non-functional.
Principal of the MMCH Daltonganj, Dr Kamender Prasad, said, “We keep telling the concerned officials to set the lifts right but in vain.”
