Jamshedpur, March 3: Tata Steel today paid rich tributes to its founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, the legendary ‘Father of Indian Industry,’ on his 186th Birth Anniversary.
Every year on March 3rd, Tata Steel commemorates “Founder’s Day” in Jamshedpur by paying homage to its founder, Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, the visionary behind the company and the city itself, marking the day with special events and tributes to his legacy of industrial development and community welfare.
The theme for this year’s Founder’s Day celebration was Leadership in Market, Technology and Cost.
Floral Tributes and Citywide Celebrations
The event at Jamshedpur Works started with paying homage to the Founder at the Works Main Gate by senior officials, Tata Workers Union (TWU) senior office-bearers, Group company officials and citizens of Jamshedpur.
N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, T V Narendran, CEO & MD Tata Steel, Koushik Chatterjee, Executive Director & Chief Financial Officer, Tata Steel, Ritu Raj Sinha, Managing Director, Tata Steel UISL, Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary, President Tata Workers’ Union and other dignitaries paid floral tributes to the visionary in a function held at the Jamshedpur Works this morning.
This was followed by another homage to the visionary at the Bistupur-based Postal Park.

Legacy of Jamsetji Tata and Landmark Illuminations
On the eve of Founder’s Day (March 2), Chandrasekaran formally switched on illumination at Jubilee Park along with the senior leaders of Tata Steel and group companies marking the tradition.
J N Tata began his entrepreneurial journey with a textile mill in central India in the 1870s. His vision inspired the steel and power industry in India, set the foundation for technical education, and helped the country leapfrog to join the ranks of industrialised nations.
One of the key features of this year’s celebration was the illumination of more than 20 landmark spots in Jamshedpur, including buildings, dozens of roundabouts, etc.
The use of colourful lights as a key part of the celebrations has always been a welcome reminder to citizens and visitors of the beauty of the city. Jubilee Park shall be opened for citizens from March 3 to 5.

Inauguration of Educational and Healthcare Facilities
The list of activities organised in the run-up to Founder’s Day 2025 included the inauguration of the New Prem Jyoti Prangan School with modern infrastructure on March 1 by the senior management of Tata Steel.
Tata Steel has funded the construction of a new building for Prem Jyoti Prangan School, offering a modern and sustainable learning environment. Besides, a Pet Crematorium was also inaugurated, the first of its kind in the region, providing a dignified and environmentally responsible solution for pet owners while ensuring a safe, hygienic, and structured method for the disposal of pet remains.
Today, an operation theatre was also inaugurated at the Meherbai Tata Memorial Hospital. This will facilitate in-house cancer surgeries and ensure that needy patients do not have to go elsewhere.
On March 4, a Spine Clinic will also be inaugurated at Tata Main Hospital. This will be a dedicated multi-speciality clinic designed for the comprehensive management of complex spinal problems.
Apart from this, a Stroke Unit will also be inaugurated, which will be dedicated to the rapid assessment and treatment of stroke patients.
The Tata Steel Sports Department also conducted various sporting activities on March 2 and 3 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex.
