Ranchi, July 26: In a major anti-insurgency operation, security forces killed three members of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), a CPI(Maoist) splinter outfit, during an exchange of fire in Jharkhand’s Gumla district on Saturday morning.

According to police, the gun battle broke out in Ghaghra forest after a joint team of Jharkhand Jaguar and Gumla Police launched an operation based on intelligence inputs that the Naxals were plotting an assault on security personnel.

Heavy firing ensued from both sides before the extremists were neutralized. From the encounter site, security forces recovered an AK-47 rifle and two INSAS rifles, officials confirmed.

Jharkhand Police IG (Operations) Michael S Raj said that the search operation in the area is still continuing to ensure no other Naxal presence remains.
