Jamshedpur, Sept 26: Three persons were killed as the car they were travelling in collided with a slow-moving trailer on NH-18 at Jharia Mode under Baharagora thana area in the wee hours on Friday.

The incident took place as the victims, including two women, were returning to Jamshedpur from Calcutta.

Those killed were identified as Ganesh Ray (50), Kushumita Patnaik (55) and daughter Monika Patnaik (28).

Ray was the driver of the car (WB51C7152) and resident of Calcutta, while the wife and daughter were residents of Kadma in Jamshedpur.

According to police, the trailer was taking a U-turn from a roundabout at Jharia Mode, but as the car was at a breakneck speed from the Calcutta end hit the heavy vehicle, causing the mishap.

The police suspect the driver might have taken a nap while driving the car in top gear and had lost control over the vehicle, resulting in the fatal mishap.

As soon as the police got the information, a police party reached the spot and rushed the three critically injured to Baharagora Community Health Centre, where the doctor declared them all as dead.
