Dhanbad, August 31: A ten-day skill-enhancing course for trainers commenced today at the Executive Development Centre (EDC) of IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM).
The training program is being conducted under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0 and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

NSDC Deputy General Manager Srimoyee Mitra addressed the inaugural function online as the chief guest. Mitra explained that the aim of this scheme is to provide skill certification and equip the youth of the country with emerging market skills.
“We have been implementing this scheme since 2015. We have a vision under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0 for providing skills to the workforce, and this is the first time it has been launched to train the trainers,” Mitra said.
The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana is a flagship program of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

Role of IIT ISM and program details
Mitra praised IIT ISM Dhanbad for its role in skill development training over the past year, emphasizing the importance of trainers in any training program. “The trainers are the heart of any training program,” she noted.
IIT ISM Deputy Director Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, who presided over the inaugural function, highlighted the significance of the event for the institution.
He remarked that it is a momentous occasion for the institution as one program (inaugural function of training for trainers) started while another training program for surveyors concluded.
“Only the Department of Mining Engineering can achieve such feats,” he said.
Prof. Kumar also mentioned that, in addition to training in mine surveying technology, the ten-day course will include motivational classes and training in etiquette and behaviour.
Prof. Alok Das, Dean of IIE; Prof. DP Mishra, Head of the Mining Engineering Department; Prof. Sukha Ranjan Sammader, In-Charge of R&D; and Prof. VGK Villuri, Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Skill Development Program at IIT ISM, were also present at the event.
