SUBHASH MISHRA

Dhanbad, April 18: Two major fire incidents occurred simultaneously at two different places in Dhanbad on Thursday.

The first fire incident was reported from Palobera village under East Tundi police station, around  36 km away from district headquarters, in which the house of Uttam Bhandari was gutted in the afternoon.

The victim’s family claimed the fire broke out due to a short circuit in which property worth Rs 50 lakh was reduced to ashes. Besides all household goods,  one Tata Magic pickup van and one bike also burnt.

House owner Uttam Bhandari alleged that he duly informed the fire department in Dhanbad for help, but the fire tender team did not arrive. The fire was controlled with the help of local villagers, but before that, all goods had already burnt.

Fire in L&T godown

Another fire incident occurred in the afternoon in the L&T company godown, which is based in the Panduki area under Barbadda police station, around 10 km away from district headquarters.

The fire department used three vehicles to control the fire after two hours of operation. Water treatment-related pipes and other materials were stored in the godown.

An official of L&T godown said that in the morning, a fire was spotted outside of campus near a bush, but three hours later, it spread on campus, reducing all material into ashes. The official said the damage in a fire could be said only after assessment.
