Jamshedpur, Sept 23: The three-day taining-cum-workshop at the Tata Steel Zoological Park (TSZP) on ‘Avian Care and its Captive Breeding’ organized for 10 different zoos under the West Bengal Zoo Authority came to an end on Sunday evening.
The closing ceremony was graced by Rajesh Chouhan, Regional Director (Animal Husbandry), Kolhan Range as the chief guest. The programme was inaugurated on September 20 by Capt. Amitabh, Secretary, Tata Steel Zoological Society.
Sulata Maity, Scientific Officer, West Bengal Zoo Authority (WBZA) expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Tata Steel Zoological Park and the Curator, TSZP Sanjay Kumar Mahato for organising such an enriching training program for the team.
She also expressed that this marks the beginning of such kind of collaboration between Tata Zoo and West Bengal Zoo Authority, Kolkata, Government of West Bengal in the future.

Participant experiences and learning sessions
Research assistant Anwesha Dey shared her experience of classroom learning, fieldwork and tour around the city that was thoughtfully planned by the programme coordinator. Sanjit Pandit, veterinary assistant, Alipore Zoo also shared his experience with everyone.
There were 14 technical sessions and 7 classroom and 7 field visits were scheduled. The talks on technical sessions were delivered by Seema Rani, Biologist cum Education Officer, Sanjay Kumar Mahato, curator TSZP, Sanjit Kumar, assistant veterinary officer, Dilip Dey, Field Supervisor (Animal), Tarakeshwar Ram, field supervisor (Animal), Bharat Chandra Mahato, animal attendant who shared their experience on the ground.
Certificates handed and Zoo staff support
The programme was successfully organised with the support of all zoo staff, especially M. Kumar, Pratap Gill, Kartik Gorai, Manoj Nag and Som. The event was conducted by Sayok Sarkar, a zoo volunteer.
All 13 participants were presented with a certificate of completion for the training cum workshop on Avian Care and its Captive Breeding with special reference to African Grey Parrot.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Seema Rani. The session also saw the presence of Dy. Director (GA) Naim Akhtar and all zoo staff.
